I suggest you ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

  3. Quick steps

As a PO and SM, I frequently review work items in order to prioritize fields such as target release, and priority. This involves a large number of repetitive actions such as: a) set the appropriate value for a field, b) make a "rubber-stamp" comment c) modify the item state.

I would like the ability to define a recorded macro, or potentially make use the outlook Quick-Steps feature to automate these steps.

  5. Parse

I'm not sure if this is in the application already but I cannot find it. We get emails from lots of different domains and we'd like to parse the emails based on rules so that certain WI fields are intelligently filled in.

I was think of rules likes parse sender's domain address and set priority, or parse subject to identify an existing work item by title etc.

As I said I'm not sure this is available, but this would be a sure fire winner for me.

  6. When creating WI from email, the New Work Item Type is correctly set as per preference. But when changing project, it jumps back to "Bug"

We set "Task" as default work item type for new work items, but it changes back to "Bug" when you change the project in the drop down list, it would be nice if the currently displayed work item type stays selected.

  7. Bug: Create Meeting from WorkItem doesn't paste formatted description correctly

I have a number of Task Work Items that contain HTML/Rich text (not sure which) in the description field. If I try and create meeting request from them, the HTML from the description is pasted as block of HTML into the meeting body. Please let me know if you need more information.

  8. Attach image/screenshot in current clipboard to current workitem

As a project owner or team member, I would like to add a screenshot or part of a browser window or an image in an e-mail or the contents of the current clipboard - to the current selected workitem (i.e. task) in an easy way like shortcut or one-click-button, so I quick can attach screendumps to the current item, which often help alot in descriping a task.

    Best regards
    David

If the work item is open and the Attachments tab is visible with the simple Copy action (press Ctrl+V) TeamCompanion will attach the image from the clipboard to the work item. How far is that from what you are asking for?

  9. Work Item Save message should indicate success or failure

When you save a work item it says "Work Item saved." or "Failed to blah blah"... they both look the same though (light text in a yellow box at top of work item) so it is not obvious to the user when something failed. Recommended User experience: Success shows the message like you have it now (maybe a green background instead of yellow which is usually a warning)... Failures should pop up in a dialog box so the user cannot ignore them.

  10. Put the Team Companion in it's own Outlook accordion tab instead of under "Mail"

Currently you have the TeamCompanion tree view under the "Mail" tab in the left hand navigation of Outlook. It is a bit buried under all my other mail folders. It would be great to make your functionality a "first class citizen" in Outlook by adding a tab just for "TeamCompanion". Clicking on that tab would show just your tree view, instead of combined with Mail. And the top menu would focus on the TeamCompanion tab. This would make it much easier to use. This would also enable opening that view in its own Outlook window so you have a distinct…

We believe that having TeamCompanion in the Mail tab makes it easier to work with emails and work items at the same time. This is why TeamCompanion doesn’t have its own tab. I will let this suggestion remain active, so that people can vote on it.

  11. "Open in browser" links

As a PO and Scrum Master, I often work in cross-platform tools, i.e. both browser and client tools, and I would like to be able to link to "Open current workitem in browser", "Open current query in browser", etc, so I quickly can shift from Outlook editing to task board editing

  12. Support using and editing work item templates like in Team Explorer

In Visual Studio 2010 / Team Explorer, I can define work item templates so certain feilds are pre-populated (i.e. Product path for a particular feature, iteration path for "Backlog"). I like using TeamCompanion to create work items but I want to use the templates I have defined in Visual Studio. The work item templates are stored locally on my machine and there is configuration in Visual Studio that specifies where they are. Team Companion could look at that value to find the templates and use them when creating work items. It would be good to have the templates in the…

  13. include unassigned hours in the burndown chart

When calculating the burndown (remaining hours, ideal trend), also unassigned hours should be taken into account. Currently the chart seems to be generated only from tasks which are assigned to someone.

In an ideal Scrum team, task assignment is done "late" in a daily scrum - not up front in the planning.

  14. Allow work item navigation by Iteration Path or Product Path

The "TFS Work Item Manager" product (Telerik) has this feature and I find it invaluable. It would be great to have it in your product as well so I can use your product exclusively... In Outlook mail you can click on a folder and it automatically displays the folder contents... Similarly, it would be good to have an Iteration/Product Path tree and when you click on a node in the tree you see the work items associated with that node. That way you don't need to set up a million queries to be able to see each individual node, and…

Thank you for this suggestion. Have you tried our Plan and prioritize feature? I agree that it isn’t the general purpose querying/filtering mechanism, but we do support filtering over areas and iterations (and various other filtering options). See:http://www.teamcompanion.com/features/agile_project_management_12/#148 for filtering options and how iterations pane (http://www.teamcompanion.com/features/agile_project_management_12/#151) and area pane (http://www.teamcompanion.com/features/agile_project_management_12/#152).
To what extent do these features cover what you are looking for?

  15. Automatically Add Work Item Number to Email Subject/Body

When creating work items from an email I currently manually append:

    - TFS ####

    to the subject line and

    Logged in TFS as ####

so developers can quickly find an issue I have logged with them.

It would be nice if TeamCompanion could automatically add these and other fields once a work item is saved.

  16. Including a QR Code in the "Send as E-Mail" Feature for Work Items

I would love to have a QR code be right-aligned in the white space at the top of the e-mail.

The QR Code would encode the URL for the work item link to Team Web Access so a mobile user could open it up by using any number of QR Code Readers. This is more for scenarios where someone has printed out e-mails that came from TeamCompanion (i.e. user story details for a daily standup). They could then use their mobile device or tablet that has a camera to snap the QR Code and immediately go to Team Web Access.

  17. Plan & prioritize grid to show different kinds of linked workitems, i.e. test cases

We use user stories to describe what needs to be done. For each test case we write few test cases. It is natural to have tested by-tests relationship between stories and test cases but we have to use parent-child relationship to get them displayed in the grid.

The idea would be to enable support for displaying hierarchy for different kinds of links, not just parent-child.

We are currently analyzing different options how to handle values that don’t fit in the available space in the grid cell. In addition to supporting multiline display within a cell, we are considering just showing three dots at the end of the text to signal that there is more than is visible, additionally providing tooltip with the complete value. We have some other ideas as well.
Any further suggestions on how to handle long texts are very welcome.
