I suggest you ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

  1. Provide a version that does not require Team Explorer 2013

I have Visual Studio 2015 installed and shouldn't require to install Team Explorer 2013 to run Team Companion.

  2. Add some colour to the Ribbon icons

The black and grey icons are quite difficult to understand, and in some cases fuzzy. I think it is a Traffic Cone that is used for "work item" but I can't be sure.
Please update the icons to include more colour and clearer images.

  3. Automatically have a 'WI from Mail' add an Outlook category to the original email

When creating a new WI from Mail (or adding to an existing) it would be very helpful to add a category to the original email so I know that mail has already be handled.

  4. include unassigned hours in the burndown chart

When calculating the burndown (remaining hours, ideal trend), also unassigned hours should be taken into account. Currently the chart seems to be generated only from tasks which are assigned to someone.

In an ideal Scrum team, task assignment is done "late" in a daily scrum - not up front in the planning.

  5. Quick steps

As a PO and SM, I frequently review work items in order to prioritize fields such as target release, and priority. This involves a large number of repetitive actions such as: a) set the appropriate value for a field, b) make a "rubber-stamp" comment c) modify the item state.

I would like the ability to define a recorded macro, or potentially make use the outlook Quick-Steps feature to automate these steps.

  6. Overall Performance Tuning

Especially when selecting a work item query in Outlook, it takes quite a while before results are displayed.

  7. It would be nice to have different work item types coloured differently.

Colouring each work item type with different colour would be very helpful to improve overall user experience when handling lots of work items.

We have been having configurable formats for different work items and work item types on our backlog for some time now. As of this moment we haven’t committed to support it in any specific future release, but we will definitely support it in time.

  8. Including a QR Code in the "Send as E-Mail" Feature for Work Items

I would love to have a QR code be right-aligned in the white space at the top of the e-mail.

The QR Code would encode the URL for the work item link to Team Web Access so a mobile user could open it up by using any number of QR Code Readers. This is more for scenarios where someone has printed out e-mails that came from TeamCompanion (i.e. user story details for a daily standup). They could then use their mobile device or tablet that has a camera to snap the QR Code and immediately go to Team Web Access.

  9. When a WI is created from an email automatically send a reply acknowledging the fact

When we create a WI from an email, automatically send an email to the sender acknowledging the fact that the email has been "accepted". The content of the email should be configurable and allow the use of macros.

    For example the WI ID

The email could be sent or not on a WI by WI basis, by having a checkbox on the create WI window

  10. Automatically create and refresh Outlook tasks based on query

If I create a scheduled query that lists all my WIs, make it possible to auto create Outlook tasks based on the results, and auto refresh the Outlook tasks if I close a WI.

  11. Implement inline editing in the grid

Support editing work item fields directly within the cell in the query result grid

  12. Allow use of email templates

Allow the possibility to create and manage email templates (multiples) to be used on the send query results by email.

This means not only the capacity to adornate the email with content (for example an header, a content, the work items list and footer) preferably the content should be fully customizable

But also the ability to define the template of the work items list (color, alternate headers, etc, etc).

This is the full vision, for starters i would be happy with just the ability to define something like

    TEXT
    TEXT
    <WORK ITEM LIST>
    TEXT
    TEXT

  13. Ability to right click on a work item and create alert.

Many times I want to get notified of a change to a work items that I am not directly assigned to. I would like to have ability to create quick alerts by right clicking on the work items that I want to follow. It should also allow me to take an item off the alert list.

  14. Support using and editing work item templates like in Team Explorer

In Visual Studio 2010 / Team Explorer, I can define work item templates so certain feilds are pre-populated (i.e. Product path for a particular feature, iteration path for "Backlog"). I like using TeamCompanion to create work items but I want to use the templates I have defined in Visual Studio. The work item templates are stored locally on my machine and there is configuration in Visual Studio that specifies where they are. Team Companion could look at that value to find the templates and use them when creating work items. It would be good to have the templates in the…

  15. Support creating work items while offline

Currently you need to be online to create work items. How about making it possible to create work items while you are not connected to TFS?

  16. Set a default query when Attaching Mail to Work Item

I would like to be able to set a default query when I click the “Attach Mail to Work Item” button. I attach emails to my tickets all day long, and 95% of the time I use the same query. Yet each and every time I have to click through the folder hierarchy to locate the “My Queries” folder, followed by the query I use most often. It may not seem like a lot, but when I attach upwards of 10-20 emails daily, each click locate the query is a loss of efficiency.

  18. Automatically Add Work Item Number to Email Subject/Body

When creating work items from an email I currently manually append:

    - TFS ####

    to the subject line and

    Logged in TFS as ####

so developers can quickly find an issue I have logged with them.

It would be nice if TeamCompanion could automatically add these and other fields once a work item is saved.

  19. Allow users to customize the alerts they want to subsribe to.

Currently in 'Alert Subscriptions' area, the Alert column is pre-defined with some alerts. We would like to see more options in there such as when a work items goes from Resolved to Active or from Quality Review to Resolve state etc.

  20. Options -> Send Email: only subject and body are supported. Provide a similar table as in "Create WI from Mail" to associate values.

Allow the association of all fields of the mail and WI objects in the same way as it is given in "Create WI from Mail". At least the mapping of Mail.To and CC with Originator and AssignedTo would be very helpful.

Thank you for the suggestion. It would indeed extend the current implementation of the “Send email” action in a natural way.
At the moment we are investigating the technical feasibility of different ways to support it.
The main problem is how to map the value from the work item fields that you mention (which is just the name of the person) with the appropriate email address of that person (which isn’t readily available in TFS by default).

    Regards,
    Ognjen Bajic
